Import from Google Docs & Notion

How it works, precisely

There is no one-click Google Docs or Notion connector. You export the document from where you wrote it, then import the file into Superblog. It takes about fifteen seconds per post and the formatting survives.

From Google Docs: go to File, then Download, then Microsoft Word (.docx). In Superblog, open the post editor and choose Import from file.

From Notion: use Export on the page and pick Markdown & CSV, or HTML. Import the resulting .md or .html file the same way.

The post editor accepts .docx, .md and .html. If you would rather not export at all, pasting straight from Google Docs into the editor also carries formatting across cleanly.

What survives the trip

Formatting. Headings, paragraphs, ordered and unordered lists, bold and italic, and links all convert to clean HTML. Word documents are converted with Mammoth, which maps semantic structure rather than copying Word's inline styling, so you get blog markup instead of a wall of span tags.

Images. Images embedded in the document are extracted, uploaded to the CDN, and optimized during import. You do not re-upload them by hand.

Everything arrives as a draft. Nothing publishes itself. You get a draft to review, retitle, and schedule.

What to expect, so nothing surprises you

The title comes from the filename. A file called how-to-do-x.docx becomes a draft titled "how-to-do-x", so rename it before importing or fix the title afterwards.

Single-file import handles one document at a time. For a large archive, zip your Markdown or HTML files and use the ZIP import instead, which processes them in one pass. ZIP import reads YAML front matter, so a Markdown archive that carries its own title, slug and date keeps them. Note that ZIP import takes .md and .html, not .docx.

Word's more exotic features do not translate. Comments, tracked changes, text boxes and custom fonts are not part of a blog post and are dropped.
